Pioneer of digital fonts design in Spain since the late 1980s, founder of the experimental project Garcia fonts & Co. (1993) and co-founder of Typerware studio (1996-2001). Since 2003 he has been a font designer at Typerepublic, an independent digital foundry that he founded in Barcelona, making custom-made types for clients such as Victoria's Secret, Lladró, Ferrovial, Signes or RBA. Some of the typefaces in its catalog have received international awards such as the Type Directors Club of New York's Certificate of Excellence. He holds a Ph.D. in Design from the University of Southampton (United Kingdom); he has been an associate professor at Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona) and is currently a professor at Elisava, EINA and UAB (Barcelona); he is a member of AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale) and ATypI (Association Typographique Internationale), of which he is a national delegate. In 2003 he published the book Type at Work: uses of typography in editorial design, which has been translated into English and French. He has written numerous articles for magazines and catalogs and lectures and typography workshops around the world.
